Coronavirus: Trudeau says Canadians need to be vigilant to avoid another lockdown
CA, 14 Sep 2020
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke to reporters about the COVID-19 situation in the country ahead of the Liberal cabinet retreat in Ottawa on Monday, saying that Canada is “not out of the woods” amid rising case numbers.
He said to avoid another lockdown, Canadians need to be vigilant and to continue preventative health measures such as wearing masks and physical distancing.
Trudeau said COVID-19 has “exposed weaknesses” in Canada, with vulnerable people “continuing to slip through the cracks.”
Asked about reports from opposition leaders that Justin Trudeau has not engaged with them ahead of the upcoming Throne Speech, the prime minister argued that he has been “engaging on multiple levels” with opposition “throughout this COVID crisis.”
