Coronavirus: Trump touts economic gains as total U.S. COVID-19 deaths surpass 130,000 | LIVE
CA, 02 Jul 2020
U.S. President Donald Trump made a last-minute address to the nation from the Briefing Room at the White House Tuesday morning alongside United States Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin.
Trump said the latest jobs numbers shows the U.S. economy is "roaring back" from the coronavirus.
U.S. employers added a substantial 4.8 million jobs in June and the unemployment rate fell to 11.1% as the job market improved for the second straight month. However, the economy remains far short of regaining the colossal losses it suffered in the spring during the coronavirus outbreak.
Trump says there are still areas where "we're putting out the flames" of the virus in the United States.
On Thursday, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in the United States surpassed 130,000, with over 2 million confirmed cases of the virus, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Trump also declined to take any questions on reports that Russia has been offering bounties for U.S. soldiers.
