World Health Organization (WHO) officials provided an update on the global response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Tuesday.

The briefing on Tuesday comes after hundreds of scientists raised the alarm over the possibility that the novel coronavirus may spread through the air more easily than was previously thought.

On Saturday, the New York Times reported that 239 scientists plan to publish evidence in a journal next week that the virus can linger in the air and infect those nearby.

The WHO has said the virus mainly spreads through droplets, emphasizing the importance of physical distancing, hand-washing and closed public spaces.
