Canada’s Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said Friday that the government is “actively reviewing” border restrictions, adding that Canadian’s should expect an update next week.

Duclos held a briefing on the country’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic Friday, along with Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities Dominic LeBlanc and chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam.

The government has been facing pressure to remove COVID-19 vaccine mandates and other restrictions amid ongoing protests in Ottawa and at border crossings in Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario.

Tam said Friday that Canada is now past the peak of the Omicron wave, with case numbers declining across the country.
