Daniel Prude protests: Rochester, NY mayor confirms retirement of police chief, command staff
CA, 09 Sep 2020
Rochester, N.Y. Mayor Lovely Warren on Tuesday evening announced police chief La'Ron Singletary and other senior commanders were retiring from the police force amid calls for their resignation over police involvement in the death of Daniel Prude.
Warren first made the announcement during a city council briefing online before addressing the public about the decision. She said Singletary will remain in charge through the end of September.
The retirements are the latest development in the case of Prude, a 41-year-old Black man who died days after police had put a "spit hood" on him and forced his head to the pavement for more than two minutes. He died from asphyxiation in March.
