Dinosaur diagnosed with advanced cancer for first time

CA, 05 Aug 2020
Canadian researchers have identified what they say is the first known malignant cancer in a dinosaur, according to findings published in the medical journal The Lancet Oncology.

The evidence comes from a broken fibula – a leg bone that once supported a Centrosaurus, a two-tonne plant eating dinosaur that lived 76 to 77 million years ago and was discovered in Dinosaur Provincial Park in Alberta in 1989.

Researchers say by establishing links between humans and diseases of the past, it can pave the way in understanding the evolution of one of the most feared diseases in human history: cancer.
