"Do not wreck this now:" England’s medical officer makes plea to follow COVID-19 rules

CA, 27 Feb 2021
England's deputy chief medical officer Jonathan Van-Tam made a plea to the public Friday to follow COVID-19 restrictions as the country's vaccination drive ramps up.

"Do not wreck this now. It is too early to relax,” he said. “Just continue to maintain discipline and hang on, just a few more months.”

Britain on Friday reported 8,523 new cases of the virus and 345 new deaths. The number of cases fell from 9,985 on Thursday, while deaths were higher than Thursday's 323.

"I do worry that people think it's all over,” Van-Tam added. “The more they think that when it's not, the greater the headwind they're going to give to the vaccine programme and the more at risk will become the milestones set on the roadmap."

The number of people who have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine rose to 19,177,555 on Friday.
