Donald Trump compares Portland unrest to Venezuela, threatens to call in U.S. National Guard

CA, 30 Jul 2020
U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday appeared to compare the unrest in Portland, Ore., to the situation in Venezuela, blaming “agitators” for turmoil in the city and threatening to send in the U.S. National Guard if the local governments aren’t able to “solve that problem.”

Demonstrators have held protests almost every night in that city since the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minn., to protest racial injustice and police brutality.

Trump also spoke about repealing a fair housing rule introduced by U.S. President Barack Obama as an attempt to limit segregated housing.

“It’s been hell for suburbia. We rescinded the rule three days ago, so enjoy your life,” Trump said.

The move, which Trump had announced earlier on Twitter, was immediately criticized on social media as anti-BIPOC.
