At least 28 elephants were tested for the coronavirus on June 8, 2021, in southern India’s Mudumalai National Park. The precautionary measures taken in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu came after a 9-year-old Asiatic lioness died after testing positive for Covid-19 in another Indian zoo in Chennai on June 3. There have been other reports of coronavirus cases in zoo animals, including two tiger cubs in Pakistan and lions in Spain.
