At a joint press conference with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, French President Emmanuel Macron responds to a question from the BBC in English in a rare instance,
A new detention centre to prevent migrants leaving France on small boats is to be funded by Britain as part of a £500 million three year Anglo French deal.
The number of French officers are also to be more than doubled with over 500 more deployed to combat the surge in Channel crossings under an agreement announced after a bilateral summit between Rishi Sunak and President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Friday.
The three year agreement significantly expands the £63 million deal signed last November which paved the way for UK officers to join French gendarmes in control rooms and on beaches and increased patrols by 40 per cent.
