Ethiopian farmers have slaughtered hundreds of thousands of chicks, most of them just a day old, as the poultry sector struggles under a collapse in demand caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Government data was not available, but Dr Fiseha Tesfu - marketing manager at one of Addis Ababa's biggest suppliers EthioChicken - said his company destroyed 650,000 chicks over five weeks in May and June.
