EU, China impose tit-for-tat sanctions over Uighur abuses

The French foreign ministry has summoned the Chinese ambassador over ‘unacceptable’ comments made against politicians and a French researcher. Meanwhile, China has summoned the EU envoy following the bloc’s decision to impose sanctions, in concert with the UK, US and Canada, over Beijing’s human rights abuses against the Uighur minority.
