Families of George Floyd, Daunte Wright hold joint press conference in Minneapolis | LIVE
CA, 14 Apr 2021
The families of George Floyd and Daunte Wright, two Black man shot and killed by police officers in Minnesota nearly a year apart, will speak Tuesday alongside attorney Ben Crump.
Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon on Monday described the shooting death of 20-year-old Wright during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center, Minn., as "an accidental discharge" and said he believes the officer intended to fire a directed energy weapon, not a handgun.
Wright's death came at a time when Minnesota is already on edge because of the trial of Derek Chauvin, one of four officers charged in the death of George Floyd.
Chauvin , 45, is charged with murder and manslaughter in Floyd's death in May 2020. Floyd died after video showed an officer with his knee pinned to the 46-year-old's neck for 9 1/2 minutes.
