Several countries are evacuating their citizens from Sudan. This comes a week after heavy fighting broke out between the army and rival paramilitary forces.
Saudi Arabia was one of the first to begin transporating its people to safety. More than 150 people including foreign nationals boarded ships headed for the kingdom. And in the early hours of Sunday morning, the United States shuttered its embassy in the capital Khartoum, after airlifting out all embassy staff and their families.
Some European countries say they are also organizing the evacuation of their diplomats, as well as citizens of allied countries. The foreign ministry says it's working with EU partners to get them out. For its part, Sudan's military says it is helping to facilitate international evacuation efforts.
