More than a million people took to the streets in France on Thursday to protest the government's plans to raise the retirement age to 64 pension reform, while public transport, schools and much of the civil service were disrupted by strikes. Unions are now calling for a new day of strikes and protests on January 31 if the government presses ahead with the reforms.
