From egging on his mob to conceding defeat: How Trump's language changed in less than 48 hours
Telegraph, 08 Jan 2021
Telling supporters at a rally on Wednesday that the presidential election had been stolen from him, Donald Trump encouraged attendees to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol Building.
Around an hour later, an angry mob stormed the US Capitol building to try and stop Congressmen from certifying Joe Biden's election win.
As the jaw-dropping scenes unfolded, the president released a video urging rioters to go home, but there was no condemnation for their actions and he even spoke of his “love” for them.
Within 48 hours, five people were confirmed to have died during the riot and Republicans and Democrats united in their criticism of the president.
In his third intervention on Thursday, Mr Trump’s tone had changed completely - he condemned the actions of his supporters and finally conceded defeat in the election, even calling for healing and reconciliation.
