From reporter to first secretary: Hard work but it was worth it
CGTN, 09 Jun 2021
Xide County was one of the last seven poverty-stricken counties in Liangshan Prefecture, southwest China's Sichuan Province. There were 28 poverty-stricken villages in the county, and of those Zhongba was the only one with a population of more than 1,000.
In March 2020, Liu Chao, a China Media Group reporter, was dispatched to Zhongba Village to serve as first secretary in the local council for two years.
Swapping Beijing for the depths of the Daliang Mountains, Liu used her camera to record the changes of Zhongba Village, leading villagers to avoid mudslides and helping them solve problems.
"I hope that after two years, I can proudly say that I have climbed every mountain here, I have stepped on every inch of land, I know everyone, and every family lives a good life because of our efforts and their own diligence," Liu said.
On November 17, 2020, all impoverished counties in Sichuan Province were lifted out of poverty.
