Coronavirus: Ontario Premier Doug Ford provides update on COVID-19 measures | LIVE

CA, 02 Oct 2020
Ontario Premier Doug Ford is expected to make an announcement Thursday and discuss the province’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic, alongside Deputy Premier Christine Elliott, Minister of Long-Term Care Dr. Merrilee Fullerton and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams.

On Wednesday, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said that he was "deeply concerned" after modelling projections released showed COVID-19 cases in the province could double every 10-12 days, with around 1,000 new cases per day by mid-October.

He said health officials are seeing a rise in cases among all age groups and if the numbers keep rising, they could see 200-300 patients in ICU beds each day.

Ford also addressed a question on rumours that his government is considering a return to Stage 2 of their reopening plan. The premier said "everything's on the table," but it's not happening today and that if it does happen it wouldn't be the same as before.

As of Wednesday, Ontario had seen 51,710 coronavirus cases and 2,848 total deaths.

Meanwhile, 43,907 Ontarians have recovered from COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, which is 85 per cent of known cases.
