Hundreds of protesters gathered outside of a Minneapolis court on Monday ahead of the trial for Derek Chauvin, the former police officer accused of killing George Floyd.

Jury selection for Chauvin’s trial was set to begin on Monday, but was delayed until at least Tuesday morning as the judge contended with a last-minute order by a higher court to reconsider adding an additional murder charge.

The judge has set aside three weeks for jury selection alone, mindful of the difficulties finding impartial Minneapolitans in a case that has convulsed a nation. The death of Floyd outraged people around the world and helped fuel one of the largest protest movements ever seen in the United States, with daily demonstrations against police brutality and racism.
