Global National: Jan. 9, 2021 | COVID-19 cases in Ontario students spike, online learning extended

On this episode of Global National: New provincial modelling data is set to be released by the Ontario government next week and is expected to show an alarming spike of COVID-19 cases in young people as the province extends the school break for students in southern Ontario. The province is reporting nearly a 120 per cent spike in COVID-19 cases in school-aged children. Morganne Campbell has more in this report.

Plus, a search and rescue mission is underway in the waters off Indonesia after Sriwijaya Air Flight SJ182 lost contact with air traffic controllers shortly after takeoff. As Mike Le Couteur reports, families are fearing the worst after debris was spotted near the area where the plane went off radar.
