Government to unilaterally change parts of Northern Ireland protocol, Liz Truss announces

Liz Truss has said the government will announce 'in due course' how a law to amend the Northern Ireland protocol implementation that the government is proposing does not breach international law.

The government will announce new legislation 'in the coming weeks,' but said she is open to further talks with the EU. Speaking for Labour, shadow Foreign Office minister Stephen Doughty said it was 'deeply concerning' the government would break the treaty and would put the relationship between EU and UK in a downward spiral
