US President Joe Biden attended a candlelight ceremony and a moment of silence on February 22, 2021, to mark the country reaching a grim milestone of 500,000 deaths from Covid-19. While the number of deaths, new cases and hospitalisations has dropped in recent weeks across the country, and the pace of vaccination is slowly increasing, the US president warned that fatalities could still go “well over” 600,000.
