U.S. President Joe Biden promised $100 million in relief aid to residents of Louisiana while touring neighbourhoods in LaPlace, La. which was hit hard by Hurricane Ida this past weekend when the storm slammed into the state as a Category 4.

Ida was the fifth most powerful storm to strike the U.S. when it hit Louisiana on Sunday with maximum winds of 150 mph (240kph).

On Thursday, Biden detailed his administration’s response on Thursday as the remnants of Hurricane Ida dumped historic rain over the tri-state area, flooding homes and washing out roads in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The president assured governors in the tri-state area that his team and FEMA are on the ground, ready to provide assistance.
