Hurricane regains hurricane strength as Carolinas prepare for storm surge, flooding

CA, 04 Aug 2020
Isaias regained hurricane strength Monday as it neared landfall in the Carolinas, after bands of heavy rain from the tropical storm lashed Florida’s east coast.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center warned oceanside home dwellers to brace for storm surge up to 5 feet (1.5 metres) and up to 8 inches (20 centimetres) of rain in spots, as Isaias moved up the coast.

"All those rains could produce flash flooding across portions of the eastern Carolinas and mid-Atlantic, and even the northeast U.S.," said Daniel Brown, senior hurricane specialist at National Hurricane Center.

The centre also warned of possible tornadoes in North Carolina on Monday night and early Tuesday, and from eastern Virginia to southern New England later Tuesday.
