Mr Biden has been criticised by Republican opponents as an "absentee" leader after declining to hold a single press conference in his first two months in office, like his most recent predecessors.

The White House has pushed back on the criticism, arguing that Mr Biden regularly engaged with reporters but was focusing his attention on fighting the pandemic.
