Home Secretary Priti Patel is updating the country on a Downing Street press conference. It comes as Boris Johnson said it is "more important than ever" that people stay at home as the pandemic reaches a "pivotal" moment.

This morning's Cabinet meeting was held virtually as a result of the surging rates of coronavirus, with NHS England chief executive Sir Simon Stevens and Brigadier Phil Prosser, the head of military, also joining the call.

Mr Johnson "highlighted that we are at a pivotal stage in the pandemic and that it is more important than ever that the public stay at home and protect the NHS," the spokesman said.
