Is 2020 the hottest year on record?

This year is set to be one of the three warmest on record.

The average global temperature in 2020 is on track to be about 1.2C above the preindustrial (1850-1900) level, according to the World Meteorological Organisation.

Despite the COVID-19 lockdowns, atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases have continued to rise.
