The Javan gibbon, a species found exclusively on the Indonesian island of Java, is in danger of extinction due to climate change and deforestation caused by human activities. Local conservation group SwaraOwa is trying to raise awareness about the primate's habitat loss before it is too late. The International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species has already listed the Java gibbon as “endangered”, with only about 4,000 adults left on the island.
