Javier Ordonez death: Violent protests erupt in Colombia following death of man in police custody
CA, 12 Sep 2020
Protests against police brutality in Colombia, which have rocked capital Bogota for two nights, have left eleven dead and hundreds injured, the government said early on Friday.
Demonstrators have taken to the streets for two consecutive nights to protest the death of Javier Ordonez, 46. A widely-shared video filmed by Ordonez's friend showed the father of two being repeatedly shocked with a stun gun by police. He died later in a hospital.
Some 300 protesters gathered once again Thursday night outside the police station in Villa Luz, where Ordonez was taken before his death and which was heavily damaged, throwing stones at the assembled police while others spray-painted graffiti on their riot shields and started fires.
