Jerusalem clashes | City wakes up to aftermath following night of violence

The international community has called for calm, following days of violent clashes in Jerusalem. Tensions boiled over after Israel Defense Forces soldiers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Monday, in a bid to crackdown on pro-Palestinian protests. More than 300 people were injured.
The Palestinian militant organization Hamas subsequently set an ultimatum for the withdrawal of the troops, and then, when that deadline passed, followed up with rocket fire. Rockets hadn’t been fired towards Israel since 2014. The Israeli government responded with air strikes on Gaza, which killed 24 people.
