The United States began three days of tributes to Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Wednesday when members of the public had the chance to pay their respects to her under the monumental Corinthian columns atop the court's front steps.

The body of late Justice Ginsburg, who died last week at 87, will lie in repose outside the U.S. Supreme Court.

A private ceremony is expected to follow in the Great Hall of the Supreme Court, attended by Justice Ginsburg’s family, close friends, and members of the Court.

After two days of public viewing, Ginsburg will on Friday become the first woman to lie in state in the U.S. Capitol when her casket is placed in National Statuary Hall.
