A remake of the 1970s classic US television series Kung Fu premiered on April 7, 2021, in what is hailed as the first network drama to feature a predominantly Asian-American cast. The new series, which is airing on the CW network amid a spike in anti-Asian racism, stars Asian-American actress Olivia Liang and features showrunner and executive producer Christina M. Kim, who is also Asian-American. Kim said she hopes the show can be a part of the solution to the racism issue, while Liang said, “It’s empowering to show some strength and show that Asian women are not to be messed with.”
