McConnell says Senate will vote on Trump’s nominee for U.S. Supreme Court
CA, 22 Sep 2020
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell paid tribute to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Monday as Senators returned to work, calling her a “brilliant legal mind.”
McConnell spoke about how Ginsburg helped “clear away the cobwebs of prejudice” and said her loss would “feel personal” to millions of Americans who had never met her.
Commenting on the vacant seat that would be left behind in the wake of Bader Ginsburg’s death, Connell said that President Donald Trump’s nominee would “receive a vote.”
He said the Senate has “more than sufficient time” to confirm a nomination before the election on Nov. 3, and argued the Senate is facing a different situation than it was in 2016 following Justice Antonin Scalia’s death when he refused to allow a vote on Barack Obama’s selection, Merrick Garland.
