An endless queue of coal trucks has packed a highway straddling the border between Mongolia and China. Strict Covid-19 measures in both countries have left drivers stranded at the border, waiting to be tested. To cross the border, they must test negative for Covid-19 in Mongolia, then undergo another test in China wearing masks and hazmat suits. The gridlock comes as China battles widespread power cuts caused by record coal prices and emission targets. According to state media, Beijing plans to double the number of trucks allowed to cross the border if the drivers meet Covid-19 requirements.
