Myanmar defecting soldiers may have proof of atrocities: NGO
Al Jazeera, 08 Sep 2020
Two Myanmar soldiers may provide evidence needed to bring a case to the International Criminal Court over what many have labelled a genocide in the country.
There are reports two men are in The Hague, in what could be a breakthrough in the search for justice over the killing of Rohingya Muslims.
Human Rights Group Fortify Rights says it has seen taped confessions from the men who say they deserted from the Myanmar army.
In lengthy videos the men have admitted to massacres, rapes and the destruction of Rohingya villages.
They have also allegedly named other soldiers and senior commanders involved in the crimes.
Fortify Rights has called on the ICC to prosecute the men and put them into witness protection.
