Thousands of people fleeing violence in Myanmar have crossed into neighbouring India's north-eastern state of Mizoram. Among them are police officers who defied orders to shoot their fellow citizens protesting the country's military coup. They now live in hiding and fear for the safety of their families back home. Although locals and authorities in the state of Mizoram have sympathy for the refugees, with whom they share close ethnic ties, India's federal government wants to stem the tide of those coming in.
