The mysterious deaths of 330 elephants in Botswana might have been caused by toxin-producing bacteria in water, wildlife officials in the southern African nation said on September 21, 2020. The deaths were reported between May and July 2020, and many of the dead elephants were found near watering holes. Authorities said they have ruled out direct human involvement in the deaths, but the toxins are believed to appear more frequently in warmer water which may be linked to climate change.
