'What we witnessed was riotous, unlawful behaviour', says senior senior police in Washington DC in response to the protests at the US Capitol building.

A civilian sustained a gunshot, and anyone not doing 'essential activity' is asked to stay at home.

11,000 personnel from the Washington DC national guard have been mobilised to 100% strength.
