German Chancellor Angela Merkel says Russian opposition figure Alexey Navalny is the victim of a murder attempt, and Russia must answer “difficult questions”.
The German government says tests carried out in a military laboratory produced "unequivocal proof" that the Russian opposition leader was poisoned with the nerve agent, Novichock.
Germany's foreign minister Heiko Maas has summoned the Russian ambassador, saying it is urgent that "those responsible in Russia be identified” and brought to justice.
