New Nova Scotia premier delivers his 1st COVID-19 update | FULL

CA, 25 Feb 2021
In his first COVID-19 briefing as premier, Iain Rankin said that he was a "science guy" and will be trusting the science when navigating the pandemic. He said the province was in an "enviable position" given the low case numbers, but they need to "stay the course" in order to keep cases and death rates low.

Rankin became premier on Tuesday, less than a month after winning the provincial Liberals' leadership race after Stephen McNeil announced last year he would be retiring from politics.

The new premier was joined by chief medical officer of health Dr. Robert Strang.

Strang reported three new cases of COVID-19 and said he's becoming concerned of community transmission. He said many of those testing positive recently have been socializing more with a "broad range" of close contacts. While people are mainly staying within the 10-person gathering limit, some are still gathering with different groups of people outside their regular bubble.
