Japanese whaling company Kyodo Senpaku has introduced a whale meat vending machine store in the central Japanese city of Yokohama in hopes of reviving flagging demand for the traditional dish. Japan is one of the few countries that continue to engage in commercial whaling, a highly controversial practice. Kyodo Senpaku said it plans to open over 100 storefronts across the country in the next 5 years following the start of the Yokohama operation on January 24, 2023.
