Coronavirus: B.C. officials provide update on COVID-19 cases | FULL

CA, 18 Aug 2020
British Columbia's deputy provincial health officer Dr. Reka Gustafson and Health Minister Adrian Dix are expected to provide an update on the latest COVID-19 cases in the province and to discuss the government's ongoing response to the pandemic on Monday.

Earlier on Monday it was announced by the government that school staff, middle school students and those in secondary school would be required to wear masks in high-traffic areas in September.

This includes buses and common areas, such as hallways, or anytime they are outside their learning group where physical distancing cannot be maintained.

New data presented by the government on Thursday showed that if B.C. continues its current trend, there will be more new cases of COVID-19 than during the virus’ current peak.

The province’s modelling showed cases will continue to rise through August and into September if British Columbians don’t change their behaviour.

B.C. reported 82 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the provincial total to 4,311.
