Onscreen clue gives true context of surgery video

When images of a medical procedure spread with surprising claims via social media posts in Thai, AFP's Bangkok fact-checker reached out to the doctor behind the original images.

Kenichi Miyata, a surgeon based in the US, posts videos of his surgeries for educational purposes via YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/@justageneralsurgeon) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/justageneralsurgeon/) under the handle @justageneralsurgeon. When he realized one of his gallbladder surgeries was being misinterpreted, he made a follow-up video to clarify the situation.
