Due to the "direct effects" of Ontario's COVID-19 vaccination program, chief medical officer of health Dr. Kieran Moore said on Tuesday that an estimated 31,280 cases of COVID-19 among people over 18 have been prevented in the province.

Moore added that approximately two out of 10 eligible people, however, have yet to be vaccinated.

Ontario is reporting 129 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, a slight increase from the day prior. The provincial case total now stands at 549,576. On Monday, there were 119 new cases with 172 on Sunday and 170 on Saturday.

According to Tuesday’s report, 37 cases were recorded in Toronto, 22 in Peel Region and 12 in Hamilton.

During a press conference on Monday, Premier Doug Ford reiterated his stance that while he encourages all health-care workers to get a COVID-19 vaccine, he had no intention on making it mandatory.
