Oregon family return to the rubble of their burned down home

Telegraph, 12 Sep 2020
Lexi Soulios and her family snuck past roadblocks to sift through the wreckage of their Oregon home, looking for anything they could salvage.

It was one of hundreds of houses destroyed by a blaze which has spread all along the US West Coast, turning skies orange and reducing buildings to rubble.

While searching through the devastation, Soulios said it was hard to imagine how their life used to fit into what was now "so small".

"I keep trying to figure out why people are giving us so many, keep offering us clothes, and then my husband reminded me because our clothes just got burned. It's just so surreal."

Authorities say more than 1,500 square miles have burned in Oregon during recent days, nearly double the amount in a typical year.

Over 500,000 Oregon's have fled their homes and 19 have been reported dead from the fires and dozens are missing.
