A rescue operation is underway at the site of a train crash that killed at least 40 people and injured more than 100, with officials expecting that death toll to rise.
According to officials, the Millat Express train derailed early Monday morning and the Sir Syed Express train struck it minutes later. It wasn't immediately clear what caused the Millat's derailment and the driver of the second train said he braked when he saw the disabled train, but didn't have time to avoid the collision.
Relatives of those who were on board the trains gathered in Karachi, searching for information about their family members with one man, whose father was on the Millat train, telling Reuters that an official had taken his phone number and would contact him as soon as the list of casualties reached him.
