Police fire tear gas at health workers protest in Paris
CA, 16 Jun 2020
Paris police fired tear gas during a protest led by French health-care workers on Tuesday, saying that fringe groups hijacked the peaceful demonstration, overturning at least one car and hurling projectiles at police lines.
"Violent groups are trying to disrupt a peaceful protest by health-care workers," the Paris police prefecture said in a Tweet.
Embedded in the tweet was video footage of several protesters pushing an overturned car into the middle of a cobbled avenue.
Health-care workers gathered as part of a nationwide day of action to urge the government to improve wages and invest in public hospitals during the coronavirus pandemic.
