U.S. President Joe Biden is set to address the nation on Friday after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in a landmark ruling that removes the constitutional right for women nationwide.

In the decision posted online, the court ruled that the U.S. Constitution "does not confer a right to abortion," adding that the authority to regulate abortion would be "returned to the people and their elected representatives."

The outcome of the court's ruling is sure to reverberate across the country and on the campaign trail ahead of the fall midterm elections, which will determine which party controls Congress.

Thirteen states have passed "trigger laws" that will ban abortions almost immediately now that the court has handed down its final decision. Six more states have abortion ban laws on the books that predate Roe, which will likely now come into effect.
