Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe minced no words in presenting China's vision for Asian security at Sunday's Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore. He talked about China's defense policy that's totally defensive in nature with a focus on peace and stability. The Chinese defense chief did emphasize China's Taiwan region is China's business, and nobody else's. And, China will defend its sovereignty over its Taiwan region at any cost. Wei's speech was delivered just weeks after U.S. President Joe Biden said the U.S. would "militarily" aid the Taiwan region in a conflict, and wrapped up a weekend of exchanges between the American and Chinese military chiefs. So what is the future of Asian security? Would it fall prey to power politics?
