Kuwait has sworn in Sheikh Nawaf as its new emir, following the death of his half-brother, Sheikh Sabah, on Tuesday. World leaders have paid respects, as the country prepares to lay to rest its late ruler who died in the U.S. at the age of 91. Analysts see his passing as the end of an era in the Gulf Region. Sabah was known for his efforts to help heal rifts in the Middle East. Sheikh Nawaf takes the reins of the small but wealthy nation at a time when the government is trying to boost finances strained by low crude prices and the coronavirus pandemic.
